First Weeks of Art Class

Things we have learned about in Art class this year:

Kindergarten/2nd Grade:

1st Day - We read the book "Art" by Patrick McDonnell, learned about the Art room rules and rewards, Choice draw/coloring time.

2nd Day - Lesson on Lines - Students practiced drawing the different kinds of lines (straight, curvy, zig-zag, curly, etc) and practiced cutting lines and gluing on paper.

3rd Day - Lesson on Lines - We read the book  - "Lines That Wiggle" by Candice Witman.  Students learned about vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines.  We did "Mrs. Brown's Line Variety" project.

4th Day - The class drew their September Self-Portraits and Kindergarten finished their line variety paintings.  2nd graders learned how to draw an owl and started step one of their Apple Tree Project.

5th Day - Lesson on Shapes - We read the book "When a Line Bends, a Shape Begins" by Rhonda Growler Greene.  Kindergarten students did a Shape Person Project.  2nd Grade students finished their Apple Tree Project and made sketch book covers along with one sketch book page (....how to draw a clown and how to draw a sheep).

6th Day - Leaves - We read the book "Let It Fall" - and did some art using real leaves.  We did leaf rubbings, and Kindergarten students made Leaf People.  2nd Graders also began a Leaf Rubbing Project using black crayons (to be painted over with water colors the next week).

7th Day - Kindergarten - We read the book "Apples and Pumpkins" and students had the choice to make a paper plate pumpkin or a paper plate apple.  2nd Graders finished their Leaf Rubbing (used water colors) and also had time for their sketch books (how to draw a panda bear and how to draw a train).
